Our Story
Our nonprofit ministry was officially launched as a 501 (C)(3) in February 2016 and was founded by husband and wife team Jacquel and Shun Tucker with inspiration from both of their parents.

Jacquel grew up in the rural community of Higgins Land in Jamaica, the youngest of her 8 siblings. Her dad was a pastor and her mom a youth director for 7 churches. Her mom Lydia Edwards was the major inspiration for her starting this nonprofit. Jacquel grew up watching her travel to America and The Bahamas and return with barrels of items that she would share with as many family and community residents as possible. Due to Inflation, residents especially those in rural communities found it overwhelmingly difficult to provide basic necessities for their families and afford the level of education their children need to succeed. Right after high school Jacquel received a full academic scholarship to the University of Maine which changed my life.
As she became an adult, living and working successfully in the USA, she started assisting her mom with purchasing and shipping items. Once her mom retired, it became more difficult for her to afford to send all the barrels that she used to. Parallel to this, a lot of the residents that are her age in the community could no longer farm or do the trade work they used to due to numerous health issues. Bottom line, a great need was identified and in March 2015, God placed it on her heart to fulfill my purpose of giving back to rural communities on a much bigger scale, starting with Higgins Land. So she partnered with her husband Shun Tucker to launch The Jamaica Project USA.
Shun was born in Atlanta and spent his younger years in Kansas City, returning to Atlanta after he graduated high school. He was inspired to give back watching his parents Jacquelyn and Sherman Morrison travel to foreign countries to serve. At one point they sold ll they had and moved to Guatemala to serve as missionaries.
The younger generation needs to be given better opportunities to succeed and the older generation needs to have their basic needs provided now that they can no longer work. As Christians, we believe that our purpose is to continue the work that Jesus Christ carried out while he was here on earth. The task may sometimes seem daunting at times but we believe "I can do all things through Christ who Strengthens me".

Our Beliefs
-
We believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and that Jesus Christ came to earth and died for our sins so we can have eternal life. We believe Salvation is a free gift from God, given to all who believe in His Son Jesus Christ and accept Him as Lord of their life. While Christ was on earth he ministered, worked miracles and shared love. We believe it is our purpose to carry on his ministry and share love which is the greatest commandment.
-
We believe that are our brother's keeper and our purpose is to love, care for and give to those in need as we ourselves may one day be in need. This is truly sharing the love of Jesus Christ. "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you? 'Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ Matthew 25: 44-45
